📦 BOX COVER
The box art presents the Gundam Barbatos Lupus Rex in an aggressive combat pose, emphasizing its enormous Ultra-Large Mace, extended tail blade, massive claw-like forearms, and distinctive wolf-like silhouette.
The artwork captures the final form of Barbatos as it appears during the second half of Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans, highlighting the machine's ferocious close-combat fighting style.
🖼️ PRODUCT APPEARANCE
The HG 1/144 Gundam Barbatos Lupus Rex represents the ultimate combat form of the Gundam Barbatos as seen during the final stages of Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans.
Compared with the earlier Barbatos Lupus, the Lupus Rex features a dramatically enlarged silhouette. Its forearms have been extended and enlarged, the head has been redesigned with more pronounced antennae, and the legs and feet have been given a more animalistic appearance.
The result is a mobile suit that looks considerably more aggressive and predatory than its predecessors.
The kit faithfully reproduces these distinctive characteristics at 1/144 scale while retaining the highly articulated construction that became a defining feature of the HG Iron-Blooded Orphans series.
PRODUCT DESCRIPTION
The Gundam Barbatos Lupus Rex is the final major form of the ASW-G-08 Gundam Barbatos piloted by Mikazuki Augus.
Following the evolution of the Barbatos throughout the series, the Lupus Rex incorporates extensive modifications designed to maximize close-range combat performance. Its enlarged arms, claw-like manipulators, tail blade, and enormous mace transform the machine into a brutal melee-focused weapon.
Bandai's HG kit captures this distinctive design through newly molded parts specifically created for the Lupus Rex.
The enormous forearms are one of the most recognizable features. Their unusual proportions give the mobile suit a powerful, almost beast-like appearance, while the articulated hands and built-in sub-arms provide additional posing possibilities.
The tail blade is connected using a flexible lead wire, allowing it to be extended and posed around the mobile suit. This is especially effective when recreating the Lupus Rex's signature attack poses.
The kit also includes the massive Ultra-Large Mace, whose grip can extend and retract. When retracted, the weapon can be stored on the mobile suit, allowing builders to display the Lupus Rex with or without its enormous primary weapon.
🐺 WOLF-LIKE LUPUS REX DESIGN
The name Lupus Rex reflects the machine's animalistic design direction.
The redesigned head, elongated limbs, enlarged forearms, claw-like hands, and extended tail blade give the Gundam a distinctly predatory silhouette.
Compared with the standard Barbatos, the Lupus Rex has a much more aggressive visual identity, making it immediately recognizable even among other Gundam Frames.
💪 ENLARGED FOREARMS
The oversized forearms are reproduced with newly designed parts and provide one of the kit's most recognizable visual features.
The larger arms help recreate the heavy, close-combat-oriented proportions of the anime machine.
The hands can be configured for different weapon-holding and posing positions, while the integrated sub-arms add another layer of mechanical detail.
🔧 DEPLOYABLE SUB-ARMS
One of the signature gimmicks of the Lupus Rex is the pair of sub-arms built into its forearms.
These sub-arms can be deployed from the forearms, allowing the model to reproduce the machine's distinctive multi-arm combat configuration.
The mechanism adds considerable visual interest to the completed model and is especially effective when the Lupus Rex is displayed alongside its enormous mace.
🦂 TAIL BLADE
The rear-mounted Tail Blade is one of the defining weapons of the Lupus Rex.
The tail is reproduced using a flexible lead wire, allowing the weapon to be bent and positioned in a variety of directions.
This makes it possible to recreate dynamic attack poses in which the Tail Blade extends around the body of the Gundam.
The flexible construction also makes the weapon considerably more expressive than a rigid plastic piece.
🔨 ULTRA-LARGE MACE
The kit's centerpiece weapon is the enormous Ultra-Large Mace.
The weapon is intentionally massive, extending beyond the height of the Gundam itself and emphasizing the Lupus Rex's overwhelming close-combat power.
The mace features a telescoping grip that can be extended for combat or shortened for storage.
When retracted, the weapon can be mounted to the waist area of the mobile suit.
The sheer size of the mace makes it ideal for dramatic action poses and gives the completed kit an imposing display presence. Bandai specifically highlights both the oversized mace and its retractable grip in the official product description.
🦾 ARTICULATED BODY
The HGIBO construction provides the Lupus Rex with a highly poseable body.
The articulated joints allow the shoulders, elbows, hips, knees, ankles, and torso to be positioned for a variety of action poses.
The design also makes it possible to reproduce the Lupus Rex's characteristic crouched and forward-leaning combat stance.
The large feet provide a strong foundation for dynamic poses despite the size of the weaponry.
🎨 COLOR SEPARATION
The kit uses molded plastic parts to reproduce much of the Lupus Rex's distinctive color scheme.
The white armor, dark Gundam Frame, blue chest sections, red details, and yellow head accents are separated across different parts where possible.
Some smaller markings and color details are reproduced using foil stickers, allowing the completed model to achieve a more accurate appearance without requiring painting.
⚙️ GUNDAM FRAME DESIGN
As a member of the Gundam Frame series, the Lupus Rex retains the mechanical design philosophy established throughout Iron-Blooded Orphans.
Its exposed mechanical structure and relatively slim central frame contrast strongly with the enlarged armor and forearms.
This combination gives the model a highly recognizable Iron-Blooded Orphans aesthetic.

🔥 FINAL NOTE
The HG 1/144 Gundam Barbatos Lupus Rex is one of the most distinctive HG releases from Mobile Suit Gundam: Iron-Blooded Orphans.
Its enormous forearms, deployable sub-arms, flexible Tail Blade, animalistic proportions, and gigantic Ultra-Large Mace give the kit an unmistakable presence that sets it apart from the earlier Barbatos variants.
Despite its relatively compact 1/144 scale, the kit offers an impressive range of posing options and several signature mechanical gimmicks. The retractable mace, deployable sub-arms, and flexible Tail Blade make it particularly well suited for dynamic displays.
For collectors building the evolution of Mikazuki's Gundam, the Lupus Rex is an essential addition and represents the most aggressive and visually imposing form of the Barbatos in the standard HG lineup.
